Agatha christie mesopotamia5/24/2023 The cast of characters in Murder in Mesopotamia is largely derived from the people she met, including the fierce and determined Katherine Woolley, who first introduced the couple, and whose tempestuous nature is likely to have inspired the victim in the novel. It isn’t long before a murder interrupts the progress of the dig and Nurse Leatheran requests Poirot’s assistance.īy 1936, Christie had frequently travelled with her husband Max Mallowan on his archaeological digs. Full of rich detail from Christie’s own travels in the Middle East, Murder in Mesopotamia sees Poirot on an archaeological expedition, not unlike those his author attended.

Patricia briggs cry wolf series in order5/24/2023 Which was a very small part of the reason that he was lying belly-down in the kinnikinnick and old tamarack needles in the shadow of a stand of trees, watching the young man who was writing with a pencil in a metal-bound notebook after taking a sample of the bear scat and storing the resultant partially filled plastic bag in his backpack. To his shame, he sometimes hovered on the edge of one of the campgrounds just to listen to the voices and pretend they were talking to him. The only problem was that he still needed them, needed the sound of human voices and laughter. Northwestern Montana, Cabinet Wilderness: October No one knew better than Walter Rice that the only safe place was away from other people.

Our dark duet series order5/24/2023 evil contrast August’ and in the end, you can see them changing their belief. However, there is a new Sunai who’s genderfluid and they were interesting in their character development. She doesn’t really do anything- in fact, this feels more like August’ story and it’s fine… but when they both have a POV, I’d like both to be engaging, ya know? There was one particular scene that really stood out and expanded on how intentions behind actions changes things, despite the evil deed.īut I do feel like Kate lost some of her badassness, at least until the end. We’re still stuck in one location and we’re getting more out of the philosophy of good, evil and exceptions- mostly from August’ POV. The only aftermath, in fact, appeared to be the creature itself, the violence fed back into its source, leaving nothing but bodies in its wake.” But here were monstrous acts without the monstrous aftermath. Kate’s friends that make an appearance for 2-3 chapters, just to never be heard from again, the romance (though it really wasn’t tbh) and the new character appearance (we’ll get to that later). And it felt underdeveloped in some areas. There’s a bit of a time jump- Kate’s now a monster hunter and August is sacrificing his humanity to be what his people need. I feel like something was missing on all fronts. Not saying this was a bad book- it definitely wasn’t.

Golem by David Wisniewski5/24/2023 The nephew thought this was an awesome story of magic. She loved the artwork and thought the word used on the golem’s forehead was very clever. The jews are promised safety.īoth kids enjoyed the story. The story is very clever and it is a great legend. It loves all the beauty in the world and it does not want to be destroyed. To protect his people, he needs to build a Golem. False lies are being spread against them and they fear for their lives. The story is set in the 1500s in Prague where the jews are being persecuted. The story is said to be a possibility for the idea of Mary Shelley’s ‘Frankenstein’. Some of the spreads are incredible and his cuts are so fine and detailed with all kinds of little pieces of grass and people all over the place or little nicks in the paper just right. The artwork is detailed paper cut-outs that are layered and have a 3D look to them. Wow! The artwork is amazing in this book! It is a great story as well.

Abraham lincoln david herbert donald5/24/2023 The best chapter is probably the one on Lincoln’s friendship with William H. Even here, however, the friendship could not withstand differences in the two men’s views of Emancipation and eventually they drifted apart to the point where Lincoln thrice passed over Browning for Supreme Court Justice. Browning became Lincoln’s confidant, and eventually his strongest supporter in Congress. Herndon – whom he called Billy – is well documented by Donald, as was Lincoln’s friendship with Illinois Senator Orville Browning. Lincoln’s long law partnership with William H. Some have suggested that the Lincoln/Speed friendship was more than just friends, but Donald dispels this notion and puts us within the context of the times. Donald then spends some time parsing the one man with whom Lincoln probably had his most intense friendship, Joshua F. He begins with a review of Lincoln’s upbringing, one which really didn’t see him build any real long lasting friendships. Somewhat surprisingly given his amicability and story telling powers, Lincoln did not have many close friendships in his life. With “We Are Lincoln Men,” Donald takes us through the rather short list of people that Abraham Lincoln could have considered to be friends. David Herbert Donald, is a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner and author of “Lincoln,” which won the Lincoln Prize for its run on the New York Times bestseller list.
